Asymmetry of the Vase is a mid tempo city pop track that portrays a quiet Saturday afternoon when a woman, having finished arranging flowers in a heavy glass vase, notices one stem slightly tilted and chooses to leave it uncorrected.
A living room near Inokashira Avenue, a thick glass vase lifted down from the shelf, scissors trimming stems, a row of flower heads set upright inside the glass, and one bloom whose angle quietly refuses the symmetry create a hushed scene where she stands half a step to the side of perfect arrangement rather than completing it.

Performed by the fictional AI singer Akemi, the song captures the emotions of adulthood that takes a small distortion onto her own side so that being too well arranged is never called the finished form.
Inspired by the late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese new music and urban pop, the track reimagines that era urban lyricism through images of late afternoon living rooms, household objects, and the small distance between a fingertip and a sheet of glass.

The gesture of a flower shop owner in the Yamato shopping street, deliberately tilting one bloom in the morning, returns now in her own fingers as they pause at the very same place.
When he comes out saying Nice flowers, she returns only Mm, never saying she left it on purpose, and pours the kettle in front of the slightly tilted vase, letting the afternoon stay just off perfect.

  • Akemi

A music project that reimagines the melancholic mood and nighttime glow of late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese City Pop and New Music through AI-assisted production and human direction. Akemi is a fictional singer with a backstory of being from Yamato City, Kanagawa, Japan. She sings of urban solitude, grown-up love, and bittersweet afterglow in a noir-tinged city pop sound. Lyrics, composition, vocals, and visuals are created using generative tools and curated through editing. This is an experimental project exploring the human warmth and nostalgia that can emerge from AI.
