"You were the one who fell for me."
"You Knew" is a contemporary vocal jazz single about a woman who hides her lingering love behind pride, distance, and quiet accusation.
Koto and shamisen are woven into the jazz ensemble not as exotic decoration, but as expressive voices alongside acoustic piano, muted trumpet, and soprano saxophone.
The refrain returns with the same words, while subtle changes in the vocal phrasing and instrumentation reveal everything she refuses to admit. Beneath her composure lies a vulnerable heart still chasing the shadow of someone who is already gone.
