Tomato theft at night

Tera Kira

It was summer, tomatoes everywhere

The farmers left them be, they didn’t care

Grandma, Mom, and me

We snuck out at night, so happy and free

Tomato stealing in the night, oh what a thrill

Bags full in hand, running through the fields so still

My white coat shining bright

But Grandma said, “Be quiet, move light!”

Grandpa would never let us go

But Grandma was brave, she stole the show

Every evening we would sneak away

Tomato stealing was our game to play

Tomato stealing in the night, oh what a thrill

Bags full in hand, running through the fields so still

My white coat shining bright

But Grandma said, “Be quiet, move light!”

Once a tractor came, what a fright

We ducked down low, wished to be mice that night

I whispered softly, “Mom, why white?”

She said, “Be quiet now, just do what I say right.”

Back home in the kitchen’s glow

Grandma cooked tomato paste nice and slow

Bottles lined up on every shelf

Thanks to our night raids, the fruit of ourselves

Tomato stealing in the night, oh what a thrill

Bags full in hand, running through the fields so still

My white coat shining bright

But Grandma said, “Be quiet, move light!”

Now I look back and laugh with glee

At those field nights and Grandma’s spree

That white coat and the tension so tight

Tomato stealing in the night—memories bright!
