Originally from Aichi Prefecture, Tomoko Miyata is currently based on Amami Oshima Island. After graduating from high school, she moved to the United States and spent 18 years performing and creating music in Los Angeles and New York, focusing on Brazilian music and jazz. Known for her story-driven song selections and compositions and clear, expressive voice, she released her debut album, Secret of Life, in 2010 with the full support of Romero Lubambo. She followed it with Begin Anywhere in 2011, both of which received critical acclaim. In 2020, after relocating to Amami, she released the album "tatoeba", co-produced by Kazuma Fujimoto and Yukihiro Atsumi, themed around traditional songs from Amami and Japan and her original compositions. Today, in addition to her performances, she is also active as a vocal coach and workshop facilitator, sharing her music and teachings on Amami and beyond.
