I wish I could hear you

目が覚めたそのときは家の中

汗ばんで 確かめた 透明な命綱

(It's ok, I just wanted to make sure you're alright and safe at 2 AM)

    Banana Prologue

    Maika Loubté

House of Holy Banana captures the fragility of everyday life through a speculative lens and near-futuristic pop soundscapes. Centered on the question, "What does it mean to be human?", the album juxtaposes the intimate space of "home" with the surreal notion that over half of human DNA is said to match that of a banana. From this unlikely premise, it quietly affirms the finiteness and imperfection of life.

Leading the record as its symbolic centerpiece, "Kumo-no-ito" is an ambitious work that strikes at the album's core. Inspired by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's The Spider's Thread, the track merges dream pop's ethereal atmospheres with the intricate precision of IDM, illuminating the fragility of peaceful everyday existence. Like the spider's thread lowered into hell, it reflects a view of life and death in which our happiness is sustained by the most delicate of balances, probing the album's themes with greater depth and clarity.

Sonically, the album traverses diverse approaches: bassless future garage evoking urban restlessness; raw, exposed acid trance; spatially immersive ambient; and nostalgic dream pop. Yet throughout, a consistent thread remains - a palpable warmth within the cold. Razor-edged synths meet prayer-like choirs; emotionally pared-down vocals contrast with the gentle resonance of the Japanese language. Within this interplay resides a lucid awareness of life's finite beauty and the steady passage of time that continues regardless.

Featuring guest appearances by butaji and Marty Holoubek, and mastered by longtime collaborator and sound designer Sountrive, the album brings together a formidable creative team. Experimental ambition and the structural strength of pop songwriting coexist seamlessly, fully realized within a single cohesive work.
