LOLOET, who successfully held their first solo live show at a sold-out Shibuya WWW in February of this year, has released a new song that they premiered that day.
This striking 10-minute long track features vocalist Ayaka Wada's lyrics, which incorporate a message of anti-war and anti-discrimination directed at a turbulent world, while referencing the history of the "hakama" (traditional Japanese trousers), and a swirling ambient dub sound. From the tranquil ambient section in the first half, which begins with ambient sounds, piano, and French recitation, to the tense, minimalist beat of the band that seamlessly follows in the second half, you'll be so immersed that you won't even notice the 10 minutes. This song represents the deepening of LOLOET's approach to contemporary society, where they look at it from an alternative perspective and express conflict and contradiction through music.
In 2023, Ayaka Wada, a former Japanese idol, formed LOLOET with musicians in Tokyo while studying abroad in Paris in search of freer musical expression. After field recording in Paris and studio work in Tokyo, she released her first song, "SŒUR," in October 2023. After Wada returned to Japan, she released "une petite pensée" on cassette tape and digitally on her own label in March 2024. In addition, in May 2025, she released the single "ELLE" on vinyl record through Tough Beats. With the theme of "ringing sounds" that resonate while relating to each other, she creates alternative musicality that incorporates the uplifting feeling of Japanese rituals into ambient drones, DUB, experimental music, environmental music, and improvisation, and is active not only in live houses but also in bookstores, museums, art spaces, and other locations.
