Three Berry Icecream, the solo unit of Mayumi Ikemizu, also a member of the Shibuya-kei band Bridge (BRIDGE), who worked with Kaji Hideki and others, released their first full album on CD last September, with a record-only release in 2019, It has finally been released on subscription services.
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of her solo career, the album features nine tracks, including the fast-moving 'Rainbow mountain road', a must for Sarah Records and Cherry Red lovers, and the soft rock 'Another World', reminiscent of Roger Nichols and The Zombies.
This album is also a studio album with a 'band' theme, despite being a solo unit. Band members include veterans such as Shimada Osamu (Swinging Popsicle/The Caraway), Sugimoto Kiyotaka (orangenoise shortcut) and Sakurai Yasushi (Corniche Camomile), as well as middle-aged musicians such as Iwabuchi Naofumi (Sloppy Joe), Hirose Miki (h-shallows).
Also featured were Tomoko Kunimi (WACK WACK RHYTHM BAND) on trumpet, Yasuhito Kawabe (Vasallo Crab 75) on violin, Keiko Tanaka (Chidori Quartet) on viola, and Hiroshi Tsutsumida (ex.Johnny Dee).
The album features a variety of guests from Japan and abroad, including Santi Diego of Capitán Sunrise, who is well versed in neo-acoustic and soft rock, and their musicians have given birth to a new Three Berry Icecream sound that has never been heard before.
The band continued to employ veterans such as Tatsuhiko Mori of Hammer label as mix engineer and Seiki Sato of Microstar as mastering engineer. It is no exaggeration to say that this album represents the neo-acoustic soft rock of the 2020s, so please check it out.
Three Berry Icecream is the solo project by Mayumi Ikemizu. She and Hideki Kaji, who was popular musician in Japan and other members made a major debut as BRIDGE from Polystar Records in 1992. After the band disbanded in 1995, she began solo activities by releasing cassette tapes to try to sing the songs she was making during the BRIDGE era. In 1999. She released her first EP, "three berry icecream", in 7-inch format in the United States in 1999. In July 2000, she released her first mini album "Apricot" from channel production in Tokyo, and in March 2006 her second mini album "Rain Drops". A collaboration with Brent Kenji (Friedrich Sunlight, ex.the Fairways), which was also on the US tour before, was decided, and a new work "three cheers" as an original work for the first time in 11 years is 7 inch from Miobell Records in December 2017 in Japan. The 20th anniversary of the her solo activity reached in 2018. In November 2021, the first full-length album of her career, Three Berry Icecream, was released on vinyl by Miobell Records. In September 2021, the label released a CD with two additional bonus tracks and an hour-long bonus DVD of her past activities as a commemorative work for the 25th anniversary of her solo career.
