Tabby Cats (known as Toraneko-dan in Japan) is a Japanese duo band based in Gold Coast and Brisbane, Australia.
Currently, they perform and produce music in both Australia and Japan, using the name " Toraneko-dan" in Japan and " Tabby Cats " in Australia.
Their sound blends a wide range of musical influences-including rock, pop, jazz, blues, and bossa nova-with arrangements that skillfully weave together guitar and piano tones.
Tabby Cats is a Japanese duo band based in Gold Coast, Australia. They currently perform and create music in two countries, Australia and Japan. [Band members] STAGE NAMES / Instruments played, etc. HIRO SNOWNOTE / Vocal, Guitar, Stomp box, Music Production, Composition and Arrangement NORI TREACLE / Piano, Keyboard, Keyboard harmonica, Drawing Production, Illustration and Manga Tabby Cats has a rich musical background in rock, pop, jazz, blues, and bossa nova, and their arrangements are a skillful weaving together of guitar and piano notes and sounds. They like to play covers of songs from the 1970s such as the Beatles, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, etc., as well as jazz standards with original arrangements. And they are also good at composing and arranging, and of course they play their own original songs. One of the members, HIRO is in charge of the overall composition, arrangement, and production of the band's music. HIRO learnt composing and arrangement at NIHON ONGAKUIN music school and YAMAHA saku-henkyoku (composing and arranging music) course. He experienced some works of produce and arrangement for CDs, gigs, theater music. Especially the music arrangement for the orchestra for the City Concert of Koshigaya is his unforgettable experience. In 1998, his original song got a prize at TRECON recording music contest. Another member, NORI has 20 years of classical piano experience since childhood and is able to perform in a variety of genres with her highly expressive piano skills. She is also a manga artist, and the characters of the band "Tabby Cats" were created and drawn by her. The blue cat NOTE and the orange cat KURUMI are HIRO and NORI's virtual characters, and are very familiar to those who enjoy their music. Their previous band in Japan Kumaneko Shoten performed some gigs and events, Sapporo Jazz Festival in 2009, Jazz Fresh & Crossover at Roppongi Satin Doll in 2010, LOVE ASIA, and so on. In 2012, they began exporting guitars to Japan from Australia, and through this business they obtained an Australian permanent residency visa. In 2020, they moved into Gold Coast, and in 2024 began performing as the duo band "Toranekodan" ("Tabby Cats" in Australia), a band they continue to perform with to this day.
