Born in Shinonsen Town, northern Hyogo Prefecture. In November 1999, she moved to New York on her own to study abroad, where she discovered jazz. Upon her return to Japan, she enrolled on the vocal course at the Arrow Jazz Music School. During this time, she travelled to New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, on numerous occasions to jam with local musicians. She performs energetically across the Keihanshin area, playing a wide range of genres including jazz, Latin, pop, bossa nova and rock in her own unique style. She is highly regarded for her vocal ability and expressiveness, and has gained a loyal following. In November 2009, she released her first album, nao Her Jazz Moments.On 16 March 2011, she opened the live music bar naos place in Kitashinchi, a bustling district of Osaka. At the request of the Board of Education, she has given lectures as a human rights seminar speaker across her home prefecture of Hyogo, covering American history, her own experiences in New Orleans, the history of jazz, and the issue of bullying. In November 2013, she released her second album,naos place. Since 2015, she has studied under Kimiko Ito.
