DJ MASTERKEY's 2001 debut album 'DADDY'S HOUSE Vol.1' breaks 23 years of silence with a remix release.
The original album featured the first single, "ONE LIFE" feat. DEV LARGE, SUIKEN, and NIPPS, a hardcore rap track with a fast-paced, serious beat. While it didn't have a mainstream feel, its uncompromising style captivated B-boys of the time and made it onto the Oricon charts. Another notable track, "HIPHOP GENTLEMAN" feat. MUMMY-D, Yamadaman, and BAMBOO, offered a playful beat with witty exchanges and BAMBOO's gentle vocals, creating a comfortable and enjoyable listening experience.
MASTERKEY emphasizes that fans of the original 'DADDY'S HOUSE Vol.1' should listen to the remixed versions of these two tracks to appreciate the differences, while new listeners will find it an accessible entry point.
The highlight of this release is the track "Saikoro 52 REMIX," featuring previously unreleased 16 bars from the late DEV LARGE, known for his impact with 'Ningen Hatsudensho'. This remix effectively brings together NIPPS, CQ, and DEV LARGE, reuniting BUDDHA BRAND. Notably, this version uses the original beat of "Saikoro 52" rather than the remix beat from the 7-inch record released in March.
Additionally, "MEANING OF LIFE" feat. HI TIMEZ and JUJU showcases a rare performance by JUJU before her major debut, adding another layer of interest.
For the remix production, MASTERKEY collaborated with versatile producer ONODUB, employing various techniques to reassemble the tracks from scratch. The result is a unique creation that transcends traditional HIPHOP boundaries.
