Created as the in-store background music for Commons Café Spontane, located on Yayoi Tengu Street in Beppu, Oita, this album is a collaboration between Ryumei Edatsugi (electronics) and Chihiro Murata (piano).

Field recordings were captured in Yufu City throughout the year ,from the vegetable fields of Limoges Farm that supply Spontane, to the surrounding natural landscapes and the streets where the café stands.
Edatsugi restructured these sounds into delicate layers of electronics, while Murata improvised her piano performance in response to the textures and atmosphere.

Blending the organic sounds of nature with gentle piano improvisation, Spontane offers an ambient soundscape perfect for yoga, reading, or quiet coffee moments.

Artist Profile

  • Ryumei Edatsugi

    Ryumei EdatsugiTrumpet Player / Composer Born in 2000 in Oita City, Japan, Ryumei Edatsugi began playing the trumpet in middle school and developed a passion for jazz during high school. While still a student, he performed with professional musicians across Japan, gaining media attention and being featured in programs such as Documentary Kyushu. After graduation, he traveled solo through the United States and Germany, joining sessions and exploring the international music scene. Upon returning to Japan, he began composing to express his unique musical vision, contributing to various projects in jazz, hip-hop, and pop. Since 2022, he has been studying composition at Oita Prefectural College of Arts and Culture, under Keita Matsumiya and Yoshihiko Shimizu. His works include 14 original pieces, a TV commercial, and 11 ambient tracks for exhibitions and retail spaces.

  • Chihiro Murata

    Chihiro Murata began studying classical piano at the age of three, along with dance and swimming. Her musical journey took a turn in high school when she started playing in bands, eventually joining a big band jazz ensemble at university. While still a student, she began performing with singer-songwriters and improvisational musicians across a wide range of genres, participating in live shows and recording sessions both within and beyond her home prefecture. After graduation, she continued her musical evolution through work with big band jazz orchestras and her own piano trio. Currently, she is an active performer, supporting a diverse array of artists in live performances and studio projects throughout Japan. In addition to her performance work, Murata has composed music for commercials and websites, and has organized interdisciplinary events bringing together painters, sculptors, and other creatives to foster collaboration across artistic boundaries. She approaches each note with care and intention, always seeking to expand her musical sensitivity through connection, exploration, and continued artistic challenge.
