Artist Profile

  • Chiei Kobayashi

    Born in Japan (Saitama Pref.) in 1980. He started playing music at the age of 6 with his parents, who are enthusiastic lovers of Latin American music, and began playing guitar at the age of 9. He was also strongly attracted to flamenco and Argentine tango from high school, and studied flamenco guitar under Hideo Suzuki. In 2002, he traveled to Spain to study flamenco guitar. While staying on the island of Mallorca, he studied under Benjamin Habichuela. He performed at local live houses and festivals. In Argentina, he performed at festivals with many musicians, including folklore musician Juan Carlos Carabajal, and was featured on local television programs and newspapers. He was a member of flamenco guitarist Jin Oki's band for over 10 years, and has performed on over 2,000 stages across the country with numerous units, mainly focusing on folklore, tango, and flamenco. In 2019, which marks the 30th anniversary of his guitar career, he released his solo album "Tres Origenes - Three Starting Points." To date, he has participated in over 60 recordings and video works, as well as soundtracks for movies, TV dramas, etc. He is well known for his performances that bring out the best in his fellow performers.
