CREMONALABO takes on the challenge of the 'Sakamoto of the world'.
-The works of Ryuichi Sakamoto, one of Japan's leading composers and players, will be reconstructed from a new approach by Japan's foremost woodwind quartet, CREMONALABO.
Seven of Sakamoto's gems, including his debut work 'Thousand Knives', his masterpiece 'Tong Poo' and 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence', will be performed in an original arrangement with flute, soprano saxophone, horn, bassoon, piano and song.
The three-dimensional sound, as if the players were playing right in front of you, foreshadows a new era of music.
The cutting-edge classical x acoustic art woodwind quartet CREMONALABO's long-awaited sixth album.
All works by Ryuichi Sakamoto.
CREMONALABO / 'Cremona' Modern Tango Laboratory.
-Formed 2016. A new style of woodwind quartet that continues the legacy of Astor Piazzolla and connects to the 'next 100 years' of classical music.
The only chamber orchestra in Japan specialising in 'Piazzolla', the quartet has worked on more than 50 pieces to date, making original arrangements of all scores by themselves and playing from memory. The ensemble is unrivalled in its use of counterpoint to challenge new acoustic effects, its numerous improvised solos that challenge the limits of each of the four wind instruments with different singing voices, its outstanding new sound that makes it seem as if it is not playing with four instruments, its clear sound image and its stoic playing style.
They also collaborate with sound art, including sound installations, and open up a new era of classical music.
Their third album, The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, was ranked No. 1 in the New Arrivals category of the Amazon Classical Ranking, and was selected as a 'specially selected disc' in the April 2021 issue of Record Geijutsu magazine.
