入社三年目の春、本社移転に伴い総務部へ異動した。窓から桜並木が見える明るいフロア。しかし、慣れない環境に緊張する私に、隣の席の主任が声をかけた。

「春風さん、これ見てごらん」

差し出されたファイルを受け取る瞬間、指先が触れ、胸が高鳴った。その日から彼の存在は私の仕事に彩りを添え始めた。

「ここをこうすると、もっと効率がいいよ」

彼のアドバイスは的確で、仕事だけでなく私の考え方まで変えていった。尊敬は次第に違う感情へと変わっていた。取引先へ同行した日、車内で交わす何気ない会話の中で、運転する彼の横顔に目が行く。緊張してメモを落とすと、そっと拾ってくれた。

「大丈夫？」

その一言に、また胸が騒いだ。

仕事を通じて距離が縮まり、彼の勧めで参加した研修では、懇親会のビールが後押しとなり、「春風さんと話すの、すごく楽しいんだ」と照れながら言われた。帰りのバス、カーブで肩が触れた瞬間のときめき。

そして迎えた週末、彼からの「ランチでもどう？」の誘い。予定を大幅に超え、夕暮れまで話し込んだ。その日から交際が始まり、半年後、彼は転職を決意した。

「同じ会社だと、君のキャリアに影響するかもしれないから」

そう言ってくれた彼に、私は迷わず答えた。

「どこへ行っても、あなたと一緒にいたい」

彼の退職日、オフィスの皆に見送られながら、私たちは笑い合った。

結婚式は小さく温かく、「総務部の二人に乾杯！」の祝辞に会場が笑いに包まれた。

今は別々の会社で働きながら、朝の支度をともにし、夕食を囲む日々。彼は今も、私のメンターであり最高の伴侶だ。
