Lyric

in the end we were dreaming

supermashu

I tried to reach the bards of the streets

Guide me through song

As I move along

But all the ghosts had carried on

I got lost amid the changing scene

So I wandered through the park of centuries

Searching against the beat of a metronome

Warm benches next to luxury homes

Hang man's elm won't you carry me

Hidden wars

In your head

Echoes of the past vibrating

I feel it in my chest

You may be gone

But we'll have no end

Til you see it

Can't remember when I died

But one day

The shell of the past

Became another home

Stared in the mirror through my soul

I'm alive to do it all again

Although you have the same face same name

Did you grow?

Did you even change?

Or maybe you're just not the same

I still love you now anyway

Did I try? Did I lie?

Did all the dreams I sailed away with

Just hang me out to dry?

But then I know

That in the end

We were dreaming

-Piano!-

I tried to reach the bards of the streets

Guide me through song

As I move along

And now I guess I'm moving on

I found my way within the changing scenes

The last thing I wanted to do before leaving New York was record music with some of my closest friends. In the days leading up to my departure, my lease had ended, and I crashed at friends' places. For those few days without a job or a home, I had nothing to do but walk the streets of NYC one last time, and write music. I sat down on a bench in Washington Square Park one afternoon and thought about the years I spent in NYC and what was to come, and I wrote the lyrics to this song. It was recorded at a friend's studio in Brooklyn.
