[SHIN KOKAWA & zezeco - collaborate#1]
Drummer and improvisational artist SHIN KOKAWA launches "13 ARTIST X 3 WORKS," a project featuring collaborations with 13 different artists on 3 tracks each, resulting in a total of 39 songs released consecutively every week.
Kicking off the series, this debut EP is a co-creation with "zezeco," an electronic unit formed by Robin Aoki (from the band downy) and manukan.
Inspired by the "Sennichi Kaihogyo" (the grueling 1,000-day ascetic walking practice) of Enryakuji Temple on Mount Hiei, this project is an attempt to distill the true essence of creation through continuous output, intentionally imposing the physical and mental burden of producing "quantity over quality." The serene, geometric electronic soundscapes of zezeco resonate seamlessly with Kokawa's primitive drumming.

SHIN KOKAWA
In his pursuit of live drum expression, improvisational artist SHIN KOKAWA resonates with Japanese spirituality, including indigenous nature worship and the sublime concepts of Zen. He internalizes a diverse range of genres: free jazz, spiritual jazz, world music, ambient, and hardcore. By infusing the primitive, powerful, and beautiful sounds of his instruments with the raw intuition of the moment, he creates soundscapes that depict the vastness of the universe. Making his major debut as a founding member of the instrumental band jizue (founded in 2006), Kokawa has performed at numerous large-scale festivals in Japan and abroad, including the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL. Since embarking on a solo career in 2019, he has released his 1st album 'ANIMA' (2020) and a 2nd album 'touch the sub conscious' (2024), which features collaborations with renowned artists such as Seiichi Yamamoto, Shing02, and Shun Ishiwaka. He is also an active member of the Kyoto-based experimental band kott, with whom he performed at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2023. In 2026, he launched '13 ARTIST X 3 WORKS,' an ambitious project featuring collaborations with 13 different artists and 39 tracks to be released consecutively every week.

zezeco
zezeco is a two-members unit composed of Robin Aoki, core member of the post-rock band downy, well-known on the Japanese alternative rock scene for their hardcore sound using odd time signatures, and Manukan, a techno artist based in Okinawa who performed for major bands like ORANGE RANGE and RYUKYUDISKO. On an electro sound incorporating elements of noise and dub, their freaky composition intertwines delicate melodies and carefully constructed rhythms. With a minimal touch, their melancholic electronic world depicts a complex soundscape focused on the combination between play and programming. Their ability in creating organic sound textures using interesting electronic sounds and reverses transcends borders, as illustrated by the use of their music for the exhibition of sculptor and physicist Dutch artist Theo Jansen.
