The great nature, the compassionate sea. Recalling the old saying that one must not enter the sea during the Obon season (in Japan), nor go to the sea to play, I pondered the various souls (the departed) and the consciousness of people (the living) gathering at the sea during this time, and composed a song. The middle section features a mantra chanted in yoga. The jacket image also incorporates symbols representing the beginning of life, the act of living, death, the cycle of life and death, and the attainment of enlightenment. Composed in August 2022.
I discovered composition around the year 2000, and have since been constructing my original sonic world through constant trial and errorworking across solo, duo, trio, quartet formats and beyond, with a wide range of instruments, performers, and styles. My multifaceted approach and imaginative sometimes delusionalideas give rise to works that are transparent and tranquil, yet at times dangerous, erotic, stoic, and singular in character. By revisiting my own life, or that of others, tracing universal experiences and memories, and occasionally collaging fragments of dreams, I consistently place universal life at the core of my work. Alongside live performance, I also compose and provide music for other artists. Since 2019, I have placed increasing importance on archiving my own works as an integral part of my practice. In 2024, I launched riquoshoo, a monthly release project of original works. The name hints at collection, scent, and ending.
