LIL J × DJ Ogdoad [SAINT] EP Pre-Release Introduction

Saint or sinner. Standing on the boundary between light and darkness, LIL J spits out his own answer.

Tokyo-based artist LIL J is set to release his new EP, SAINT.

All tracks on the project are produced by DJ Ogdoad, who supports LIL Js vision with a uniquely dark sonic palette and tense, atmospheric production. Over heavy, unsettling beats, cold yet beautiful textures, and soundscapes that evoke the nocturnal city, LIL J delivers words shaped by inner conflict, desire, loneliness, anger, and an unrelenting will to survive.

The EP includes REBEL, which confronts rebellion and self-affirmation head-on; The devil on my shoulder, a dialogue with the demon that lingers beside him; OMG, which feels like both a prayer and a scream; and JR Yamanote Line, a track that symbolizes everyday life in Tokyo.

The title SAINT does not simply refer to a holy man.

Perhaps, in the first place, there was never any god in this world to offer salvation. People continue to live while speaking prayers they have never once seen answered.

Rather than belonging to either good or evil, light or darkness, salvation or downfall, this work reflects LIL J himself standing precisely on that boundary.

By sharpening the pain, loneliness, and street-hardened sensibilities he has carried until now, and fusing them with DJ Ogdoad s heavy, dreamlike sound, SAINT is completed as a single cohesive narrative.

There is no God. So I can only pray with my own voice.

This statement marks LIL J s current state of being delivering a dark, raw, yet strangely redemptive EP titled SAINT.

Not to become a saint, but to create music that allows him to stand firm in a world where no one is coming to save him.
