Waking up in the heat of a humid night

The water in my glass is shaking in the light

Neon colors bleeding through the curtain's seam

The TV’s reporting some distant, broken dream

I open up the window, but nothing really shifts

Silence is the only thing that slowly drifts

It’s not that I want to go back to that place

But those days had a beauty, a simple kind of grace

"You’ve grown up, haven’t you?"

Those words soak into me, quiet and true

The starry sky from that summer night

Is out of reach now, and out of sight

The giant dreams and the failures so small

The days have piled up, I’ve been through it all

I can’t cry as easily as I did back then

When the world was a story, written with a pen

I’m more free now than I’ve ever been before

So why does my shadow feel lonely on the floor?

Everything is changing, fading into gray

The long, stretched shadows under a rising moon
