Leaving Kindness Behind

Tera Kira

Waking up in the heat of a humid night

The water in my glass is shaking in the light

Neon colors bleeding through the curtain's seam

The TV’s reporting some distant, broken dream

Then out of nowhere, it all comes back to me

A room in the country, where the wind was free

The cry of cicadas and the old electric fan

The nights of a boy, before he was a man

I open up the window, but nothing really shifts

Silence is the only thing that slowly drifts

Just in a sudden, fleeting spark

Childhood memories come dancing through the dark

It’s not that I want to go back to that place

But those days had a beauty, a simple kind of grace

"You’ve grown up, haven’t you?"

Those words soak into me, quiet and true

The starry sky from that summer night

Is out of reach now, and out of sight

The giant dreams and the failures so small

The days have piled up, I’ve been through it all

I can’t cry as easily as I did back then

When the world was a story, written with a pen

I’m more free now than I’ve ever been before

So why does my shadow feel lonely on the floor?

Everything is changing, fading into gray

But deep inside my heart, the feelings stay

The scent of the grass on a rainy afternoon

The long, stretched shadows under a rising moon

They melt into the night, into the city’s air

Whispering to me, while I’m standing there

"You’ve grown up, haven’t you?"

I thought I heard a voice, someone I once knew

Whether I’m laughing or crying in the rain

Those days made the person I am today, in vein

Stretching my back to look a little taller

Walking with my head high, making the world smaller

But somewhere behind, in the dust of the track

The kindness I left is still calling me back

Just in a sudden, fleeting spark

Childhood memories come dancing through the dark

I know I can’t go back, I know the path is closed

But it’s the most precious thing I’ve ever composed

"You’ve grown up, haven’t you?"

It’s not about losing the things that were true

It’s about holding those days in your hand

Without forgetting
