This is the 2nd Single from Sandy Rag, a band based in Tokyo.
Similar to their 1st single "Daisy," this song draws inspiration from soul and R&B while incorporating flavors of indie rock and AOR.
Pursuing a sound that feels nostalgic yet comfortably unfamiliar and new, it took four years from initial concept to final arrangement to complete.
While introspective lyrics and melancholy melodies appear at times, the overall song is unified by an upbeat, driving rhythm and soulful vocals. We hope listeners will enjoy it at the start of their day, when beginning something new, or during a solitary night.
We aim to reach not only soul and R&B listeners but also those familiar with recent city pop and lo-fi pop.(Side note)
The "pendulum" in the title refers to the swinging weight in a clock.
We often find that what we were certain of one day becomes a completely different thought the next, or that overwhelming anxiety can suddenly turn into great confidence. We may despair that life is full of suffering, only to rejoice moments later that living is wonderful. It seems our emotions and thoughts are always swinging back and forth like a pendulum, and we live our lives constantly affected by these swings.
In this song, we've tried to depict the dizzying back-and-forth of numerous emotions within a single person.
We express this feeling through various techniques: alternating between major and minor chords, repeating two chords multiple times, singing completely different emotions from the same person in verses 1 and 2, and including unexpected twists just when you think the same beat will continue.
