Artist Profile

  • maho

I am maho, a sign language singer with a disability. My performances blend singing with sign language. I was born with physical and speech impairments. I began my musical journey in November 2016, picking up the guitar again after having nearly given up on it. My performances center on songs accompanied by sign language. After appearing at the "Totteoki Music Festival in Nagoya" in 2022, I began studying sign language MC techniques; a chance encounter inspired me to want to converse in sign language and share music through it, leading me to study the language in earnest. "We are all different, and that is a wonderful thing." Because my disability is not immediately apparent to the eye, I have faced many painful experiences. Having a disability does not mean being unhappy. Regardless of disability, I want to convey my thoughts and feelings through sign language and create music that everyone can enjoy.
