Rock Of Asia is the project formed by Nikki Matsumoto who spent 15 years in the United States playing rock music professionally. Rock Of Asia combines musical instruments of the East, such as a koto, shamisen, sho, and erhu and those of the West, such as a guitar and violin. While performing original and cover songs, it also plays pieces of Japanese traditional music. Since the formation in the winter of 2010, live shows followed throughout the rest of the year. It landed in North California in April, 2010 to perform 3 shows in the bay area and received a warm welcome by American music fans. The first album was released on March 11, 2011. And since it coincided with the day of the great earthquake, Nikki Matsumoto spent a half year as a volunteer for the victims, cancelling all the tour plans. In 2012, Rock Of Asia toured through the Middle East paying respect to the Arab Spring movement. The band performed at the Cairo Opera House, The Embassy of Japan in Cairo, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and The Holy Square of Nativity Church in Bethlehem and others, the total of 8 concerts throughout the Middle East. Nikki spent the next 4 years working on his solo album dedicated to Palestine entitled "Palestine On My Mind" and toured mainly in Palestine including Bet Lahem Live Festival in 2015 and 2016. Nikki is now concentrating again on Rock Of Asia and will be releasing the 3rd Album "Japanesque" in early 2019.
