1960年のスタンリー・キューブリック監督の映画「スパルタカス」のアレックス・ノースのスコアーが原曲。この「愛のテーマ」を最初に知ったのはBill Evansとフルート奏者Jermy Steigのデュオだった。Fred Hersch師の名演の影響も当然受けまくっている。だからこそ、西谷さんとの共演を想定して原曲のBの部分を活かそうと考えた。その結果、と言うか西谷さんのお蔭でイメージ以上にシンフォニックな広がりが生まれた。スパルタカスは共和制ローマ期(紀元前73-71年)に起きた奴隷反乱の指導者で剣闘士の名前。人間として扱われない過酷な境遇を跳ね付けようと集結した人々によって、およそ30年ごとに起きた反乱で第3次奴隷戦争と呼ばれている。

Yoko Nakamura
Yoko Nakamura has about 40 years of experience as a pianist and improviser. CD "girlish" in 1998 and "All Jazzed up" in 2001,she worked on the reinterpretation of standard, jazz tune, classical tune, and Japanese traditional songs. Since 1996 she has been taking lessons from legendary pianist Fred Hersch.
