AUTHENTIC SKA STANDARD's fifth single is "GO WHEY," an upbeat ska tune originally released by Jackie Opel in 1964.
Although the song was later retitled "GO AWAY" when it appeared on one of Opel's albums, we chose to retain the original title, "GO WHEY," as a tribute to the original release.
Jackie Opel, a Barbadian singer who became one of the defining voices of Jamaican ska, remains one of our greatest musical inspirations.
This is the second Jackie Opel song we have recorded. The lead vocal is performed by HIROSHI ASAMI, whose deep admiration for Opel's music made him the perfect singer for this recording.
We were also inspired to record this song because the original version has not been widely available on digital streaming platforms. We hope our rendition will encourage more listeners to discover his remarkable music.
Ska is worth exploring.
