  • MIKAGE PROJECT

    MIKAGE PROJECT was formed in December 2020 with Kimiki Sato (shakuhachi/shinobue) Sho Asano (tsugaru shamisen / singing) and Takato Honma (two five-stringed koto). We will begin activities to rekindle folk songs found in various parts of Japan and pass them on to the next generation. In April 2021 they released their 1st EP "MIKAGE PROJECT" which includes songs such as "Kokiriko Bushi (Toyama Prefecture folk song)." In October 2023, as part of the 50th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN friendship and cooperation, they held their first overseas performances in Thailand and Malaysia creating a whirlwind of excitement in the two Asian countries through collaboration with local ethnic music artists. MIKAGE PROJECT provided its first song for Kis-My-Ft2's 10th album "Synopsis" to be released in May 2024. (Song name "Hoshiyui" Lyrics: Sho Asano, Composition: MIKAGE PROJECT) Additionally, at Otakon 2024, one of the largest anime festivals in North America, where they performed on August 3, 2024, they received a standing ovation after their performance. From April 2024 NHK-FM Member Sho Asano serves as the main MC of ``Minyoubi''along with singer Hiroko Moriguchi. The instrumental versions of Mamurogawa Ondo (Yamagata Prefecture folk song) and Miyagino Bonuta (Miyagi Prefecture folk song) included in the 4th EP TOU are the songs are used as the opening/ending songs for the programs listed above. In October 2024 they were invited to perform live at the Cervantino International Art Festival one of the largest art festivals in Mexico and Latin America. Additionally in March they toured Peru as their first South American tour. In June, they toured South Korea and Brazil. The music activities of MIKAGE PROJECT, which composes and arranges Japanese culture with a modern sensibility are attracting attention from all over the world.
