After releasing their first mini-album in 2016, Yokohama-based sad melodic punk band slugger machine finally released their first full-length album. After the release of the mini-album, the band has been active, participating in various compilations and playing numerous live shows, including independent projects, while member Yoshino also runs RAFT records, releasing mainly Yokohama bands and showing tremendous energy. However, it took them five years to release an album. They are trying to change, and there was a time when they were struggling desperately. But when I listened to this album, I couldn't help but laugh. They have finally established their own sound! The saddest melodies are emotional outpourings, and while they've done that in the past, they've started to take a completely different direction. The rapid-fire rhythms of the drummer, with his many moves and sudden braking, are definitely a key point of the new slugger machine. The melodic sound of the late 90's, when melodic and emotional sounds were not divided into genres as they are now, has been recreated. Frankly, I don't understand why no Japanese band has tried this sound before, but slugger machine has finally entered the realm! It reminds me of the former Snuffy Smile melodic sound of Japan, EVERSOR of Italy, TWO LINE FILLER of Canada, HOUSEBOY, DIG DUG/SORE LOSER of the US, SPRING HILL of Germany, and many other sounds that occurred simultaneously all over the world in the late 90's. sound that occurred simultaneously all over the world in the late 90's. LUNESEA fans should not hesitate to listen to this album. I think this sound comes from the fact that I've been listening to a lot of different sources with greed. Challenging with a purpose is not a waste of time. Co-released with RAFT records, run by member Yoshino. (O)
