Kenny S., a.k.a. GEISHAMAN, is the grandson of Enju, who was once said to be the most traditional Edo geisha. His grandfather was Sakyo Kineya, a master of Nagauta (a style of traditional Japanese music), and his grandmother was Katoo Kineya, a shamisen player. He grew up in a family deeply rooted in traditional Japanese music.

During his childhood, he was raised in a peculiar family environment where Colonel Russel C. Jackson of the U.S. Air Force, who was not related by blood, became his grandfather. He was influenced by the American music of the 1960s and 1970s that flowed from the U.S. military radio station FEN (Far East Network), which was always on in the kitchen.

He began his career as a solo artist and later joined EZO ROCK AMATO, a band directly mentored by the Chuck Berry Band, in Sapporo's oldest live bar. They performed cover songs of classic rock based on American music and released original tracks. After two and a half years with the band, he left and put his music activities on hold to start a tattoo studio called MOUNTAIN HIGH TATTOO WORKS in Sapporo.

After 16 years of silence, he resumed his music career under the name Kenny S. as a composer, guitarist, and visual creator.

Artist Profile

  • Kenny.S .a.k.a. GEISHAMAN

Kenny S, also known as GEISHA-MAN, is a great-great-grandson of Enju, a prominent Yanagibashi geisha known for her traditional Edo roots. His great-grandmother was skilled in dance, shamisen, and song during the Meiji era. His grandfather, Sakyo Kineya, was a businessman and nagauta singer, while his grandmother, Katoo Kineya, was a shamisen player. Originally from Tokyo and now living in Hokkaido, he is an interior, music, and visual creator. Raised in a unique household by Russel C. Jackson, a music-loving U.S. Air Force Colonel, he was influenced by the American music of the 1960s and 1970s broadcasted by the Far East Network, which inspired him to pick up the guitar. As a child, he had an unusual obsession with sound, often recording nature with a stereo recorder and microphone after school. He would listen to these recordings in his room, immersing himself in the memories of those moments. He began his career as a solo artist and later joined EZO ROCK AMATO, a band mentored by the Chuckberry Rock 'n' Roll Band, as a guitar vocalist. They performed classic rock covers and released original songs, completing over 100 live performances each year for two years. With the mission of "sharing the beauty of music and liberating live music," he founded a sound production company called Hibikiya Sohonpo. He organized free live performances in various locations, operating the sound system while performing as a guitar vocalist. After two and a half years of intense band activities and over 100 live shows annually, he left the band for personal reasons, leading to a freeze in his music activities. He then started a tattoo studio in Sapporo called Mountain High Tattoo Works. In October 2024, he plans to resume his music activities, linking his design work with his previously frozen music career. He aims to combine his expertise in interior design to present his work as an "Interior, Music, and Visual Creator."
