Artist Profile

  • Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass

Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass is a garage punk trio based in Tokyo since 2005. Yumi (Guitar&Vocal), Miki (Bass), and K (Drums) are all initial members. Starting with their participation in SXSW in 2012, they has also toured many overseas countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. The name of the band doesn't stand for anything in particular. However Yumi once have explained about a word in the name that she picked the word "vulgar" to describe their independent stance for the band's creativity to the majorities in society such as mainstream music industry and also some groups exclusive to other communities with different values. The band values an attitude and philosophy which comes from individual/ whole person. Their music is heavily influenced by the aggressive styles of Japanese garage rock in the 90's. The massive beat which the band is committed to, is emotionally driven and intense. Also the vibrating rhythm ensemble on instinct brings lots of energy to their music in a very unique way. In addition, another major factor that characterizes the band, is how they follow their own creativity. They don't give up sticking to their creativity because of music genre. The members work on making it real to represent themselves, by using their musical senses of the oldies such as blues and rockabilly and the 90's such as hip-hop and alternative rock when the band members spent their teenage years.
