Bookmark Adagio is a mid tempo city pop track that portrays a late winter night when, a few days after the news of his passing, a woman pulls a borrowed foreign book from the back of her shelf and discovers a pressed-flower bookmark with a single line written in fountain pen on its tissue.
A desk lamp in Shinsen, an old foreign book lifted from the back of the shelf, a sheet of thin paper folded around pressed flowers from a Manazuru shore two springs ago, and a single fountain-pen line on its reverse create a quiet scene where a book never returned reveals itself as a one-way letter addressed to a someday-self.

Performed by the fictional AI singer Akemi, the song captures the loneliness of adulthood that meets loss not with large gestures but with the small motion of a fingertip pressing the bookmark down and the patient return of the book to its place on the shelf.
Inspired by the late 1970s to early 1980s Japanese new music and urban pop, the track reimagines that era lyrical subtlety through images of winter night studies, fountain pen ink on tissue paper, a seaside spring two years ago, and the silence kept between two pages.

The motion of her mother brushing dirt from the hem of her dress on the night of a wake in Yamato returns now in her own fingertip pressing the page.
She slides the book back onto the shelf without ever having returned it, stands by the window of a winter night, and does not yet let the words I remember leave her mouth.
Produced by nanayon music.
