Loota, Gliiico

Epilogue
Loota, Gliiico
After impacting the world over with the breakthrough release "It G Ma" alongside KOHH and Keith Ape, Loota has continued to make an impact on the titans of the international music scene collaborating with Frank Ocean, Brodinski, SebastiAn, Surkin, and Sam Tiba. His last release "KUUGA", a group effort with up and coming artist Tohji and "Yeezus" producer Brodinski, is a perfect example of Loota's ability to push the boundaries of modern music. In 2021, Loota's solo releases have cemented his position in the industry, with the release of "Sheep / Melting Ice", "Love Sick / Melting Ice (Remix)", "Barefoot / Holy", and most recently "Hokuto" with Brodinski.
His forthcoming album, "Ephemeral", is a collaboration with Gliiico, a Tokyo via Vancouver psychedelic band formed by three brothers Nico, Kai and Kio de Torres.
Gliiico put out their debut single "Around" in March 2020 shortly after relocating to Tokyo. Their second single "Nonchalant" was released in June 2021 as part of Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2021, with their latest single "Isn't it Strange" uploaded this past August. Drawing from an eclectic range of influences, they have garnered attention with features on i-D, Commons and Sense, and Pen Magazine among others. Blurring the lines between fashion and music, Gliiico has also lent their talents to international brands like Marc Jacobs, Coach and Dior.
"Ephemeral," clocking in at just under 30 minutes is a unique bonding of Loota's signature desolate soundscapes with Gliiico's warmer, sun soaked sonics.
With the album structured as a dream sequence, each song is a perfect sublimation of Gliiico and Loota's worlds, rewriting the definitions of "Rapper" and "Band". The result is an offering that goes beyond the borders of conventional genre or categorization.
Songs like "Addicted" and "Need Your Love" tap into the psych rock sounds of the 70's while "Eyeland" and "Champions" take an ethereal route. "Exit" and "Colors" provide a different sonic completely, bringing the listener to the realms of electronic dance music. Even with all the genre-bending, no matter which part of the album you're listening into, it's evident that Loota and Gliiico's DNA are ever present.
The melting album cover coming from fine artist Yuki Nakajo is a perfect representation of the album, showcasing Yuki's signature use of swirling acrylic plastics found in his works.
"Ephemeral" is a perfect album of the times, a reflection of fleeting moments, both negative and positive. It is a reminder in music form that impermanence is truly beautiful.
