Artist Profile

  • Miki Sakata

Miki Sakata started playing the piano at the age of three. She went on to study piano and music philosophy at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music under Professor Jun Fukamachi and majored inclassical music. Post-graduation, Miki has been an active composer and pianist. She has mastered the ancient Greekinstrument Psaluta, and has received universal acclaim. She isconsidered to be a rare Psaluta performer. Just after the Great East Japan earthquake, Miki wrote several original pieces for charity and has taken part in a number of concert performances supporting the recovery in Tohoku. Her original song KIBOW was recognized after a performance with the Tunisian artist and musician, Riadh Fehri, featuring the Japanese violinist Sayaka Katsuki. KIBOW has been included in a project with Grammy award-winning artist Jim O'Rouke, and is currently being distributed online. She dedicated one of her original Psaluta songs at an event at the Izumo Grand Shrine in May 2013. That same year, she composed, performed, and produced the original theatre production, In Search of Lost Time, by French author Marcel Proust, which was a great success. Her musical adventures have no borders as she continues her efforts to develop her abilities and expand her reach. Such challenges include an arrangement of techno music by Jeff Mills on piano as well as collaborative works with filmmakers, picture-card artists, and picture books authors. Miki also takes part in recording sessions and performs with artists from abroad in concerts. She makes full use of the piano and the Psaluta in her highly acclaimed performances and is internationally admired as acreative, colorful, lyrical, beautiful, peaceful, poetic, musician.
