Artist Profile

  • nannou

A four-piece gothic rock band from Japan. Formed in Tokyo around 2010, the band has been based in Tokyo and active since 2026 with a lineup consisting of seheru (Vo/Key), yu (Gt), endo (Ba/Cho), and tayu (Dr/Noise). Rooted in the decadent atmosphere of 1980s gothic rock and positive punk, the band centers around a female vocal style informed by the melodic sensibility of 1990s to 2000s Japanese kayō pop. Fuzz- and reverb-drenched guitars intertwine with harsh to textural noise generated by the drummer through effects, creating a sound that moves between melody and abrasion. Combining an underground aura with a distinctive pop sensibility, nannou exists outside fixed categories, yet feels capable of reaching in any direction, drawing attention from a wide range of listeners. In 2015, they released their first album "suicide underground". In 2016, the band performed at "CLUB WALPURGIS", an event organized by MADAME EDWARDA, a key figure in Japanese positive punk. Following several lineup changes, they released their first single "Kyozou" in 2019, and their second single "Fatal words lie with me" in 2023. Drummer tayu joined in August 2023, and the band released their first EP "scab" in September 2024. In January 2026, endo joined the band as the new bassist.
