"Play Me"

Ámina

Baby when we get by

No delaying

Cuz we take our time

Creeping on

Do as I say, I do it real slow to set my pace

Said we’re filming tonight

Suppose you need to shake off

Being shy won't get you there

You better get it on

I'll take good care

Now shooting

You go on your stage

Get your angle right

Onto us checking the mic

"Ah. Ah. Turn it on"

Now shooting

Zoom on your "sorbet"

Casting, directing the night

And cut. Now we roll

Strike a little pose for me

I like when you take control of me

Besides my baby trained

Gets the tempo right

(You play rewind)

Got you pressing the rewind

Strike a little pose for me

Archives: I'm tryna make you feel less lonely late at night

Label it as "Play me"

Good for your eyes

(You play rewind)

I kinda like it when your headbands on

Cuz your hair gets in the way

"Say less"

Oh, you're sucking life out of me

Changing pose, holding my ankles

Now, stretch pose

(Can't deny)

Better, keeps on getting better

Cuz we do our check ups

My baby couldn't help it, I too

(Imma make it go rainy)

Now shooting

You go on your stage

Filling me up

Use your weapon while I bend my knees

Strike a little pose for me

I like when you take control of me

Besides my baby trained

Gets the tempo right

(You play rewind)

You play rewind

Strike a little pose for me

Archives: I try to help you feel less lonely late at night

Label it as "Play me"

Good for your eyes

(You play rewind)

No one gets to see them

(Filming together)

Shawty, we filming 'em right

No one gets to baby

(Filming together)

Bending it up, up on you

(Strike a pose)

(Filming together)

(Strike a pose)

(Filming together)

Strike a little pose for me

I like when you take control of me

    "Play Me"

    Ámina

R&B singer Ámina has released her new single, "Play Me." This track reimagines the sophisticated sound of Y2K-era R&B through contemporary production.
The rhythmic backbone consists of the heavy drums of the Roland TR-808 and the fat synth bass of the Moog. Overlaid on top are ambient synth arpeggios, creating a soundscape with a sense of floating and depth. While grounded in the lustrous soundscape reminiscent of 2000s R&B, the minimalist arrangement-which makes full use of spatial dynamics-elevates the track into a sound where nostalgia and modernity coexist. In the latter half, a talkbox is introduced, evolving the track into a groove reminiscent of electro-funk. The sound design, which conveys a deep respect for Black music throughout, is another highlight.
The lyrics depict intimate moments with a lover using the motifs of "filming" and "replay." Within a world where reality and fiction, records and memories blur together, Ámina's smooth and expressive vocals shift between sweetness and an air of mystery.
"Play Me" is a track that captures Ámina's unique worldview, where the aesthetics of Y2K R&B intersect with contemporary soundscapes and cinematic storytelling.
