YOKO SHIBATA
Singer-songwriter and radio personality. Born in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Passed the Yamaha Vocal Audition in 1973 with Shono Mayo and Kano Masako (Circus). Appeared at the 5th Yamaha World Song Festival in 1974 with Yagami Junko for "Sadness of March 3rd". Appeared at the 6th World Song Festival in 1975 with Yagami Junko and Nakajima Miyuki for "Mister Lonesome". Won the Vocal Award with Matsuzaki Shigeru and others, and the Kawakami Award with Bobby Solo. 1976: Hosted Nagoya Tokai Radio's "Midnight Tokai" program (Tuesdays, July 1976 - September 1978). Appeared at the Chile Music Festival in 1978. Won the Best Arrangement Award. 1979: KBS Shiga "San San Wide" personality (November 1979 - June 1981) 1981: Moved to Tokyo. Wrote songs for Junko Yagami, Yuko Ishikawa, Mai Yamane (now Mai), and others. Worked as a lecturer at the Victor Music College Pro Course. 1985: Started her career as a jazz singer under the name "Ueda Riei." 2001: Developed relationships with mainly Asian international students and formed the mixed nationality unit "Santensho." 2002: Started activities to continue singing "Furusato wa Asia." In 2004 and 2003, "Furusato wa Asia" was featured on Yamana Toshiharu's 30th anniversary CD, and with the cooperation of Mr. Kurahara, president of the live house "Bottom Line," released the "Santensho" album. In 2006, Mariko Aoki, the main vocalist of Go-Ton no Akai Fuusen, released "Furusato wa Asia" (included in the album "Aitai"). In 2008, they started a charity live series called "What we can do now, born in Asia," with "Furusato wa Asia" as the theme song. In 2009, the late Yuki Katsuragi released the maxi single "Bohemian remake ver./Furusato wa Asia/Shimokita Renjou" following the release of the single "Inochino Baton" (lyrics and music by Yoko Shibata). 2016, 12.9 Shibata Yoko solo live at Nagoya BottomLine (BL) Cafe ~ 40th Anniversary of Debut LIVE ~ Shibata Yoko & Friends Reunion [Performers] Shibata Yoko (vo), Noda Yumushi (e&a.g), Ando Koji (e&a.g), Goto Masakazu (b), Kobashi Yuji (ds) 2017, 12.1 Shibata Yoko solo live at Nagoya BottomLine (BL) Cafe. Since 2018, Shibata Yoko solo live is held regularly at Nagoya BottomLine (BL) Cafe. 2022 "Shibata Yoko Brand New 2019/2019.12.1 LIVE" and "Treasure Chest" are released simultaneously. 2024, 12.7 "Debut 50th Anniversary Shibata Yoko Talk & Live" will be held at Nagoya Bottom Line. In conjunction with the live performance, "Treasure Chest 2" was released. In addition, a new album "ZIZIBABA Ninattemo" was produced and released in preparation for the live performance.
