Following a period spent making music for films and commercials, Akeboshi finishes work on his first new release in nearly five years
For the last several years, the main focus of Akeboshi's work has been the production of music for films and commercials. Among the works to which he has contributed theme songs and scores are director Ryosuke Hashiguchi's 2015 film Three Stories of Love, and director Katsumi Nojiri's 2018 film Lying to Mom. During that time, Akeboshi has also worked on music for commercials, including an All Nippon Airways spot starring figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Now, Akeboshi has completed work on a mini album, which will be his first new, non-soundtrack release in nearly five years, since his album After the Rain Clouds Go arrived in August 2014. The new mini-album will feature the title track "a little boy" and three other songs, as well as illustrations, all inspired by the artist's experiences with life and death. The song "VET in the dream box" is based on the true story of a veterinarian at an animal shelter in Taiwan, who in 2016 took her own life by dosing herself with the same drugs used to euthanize animals. Like the previous release, the new mini-album will be released through Akeboshi's own label RoofTop Owl. A tour is scheduled for July, with stops in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Nagoya.
