Dr.Handpan, an artist exploring the harmony of body and mind through the voice of the handpan, returns with the long-awaited 3rd album Kyomei.
The 2021 predecessor Tenmei reached No.1 daily in Germany and No.7 daily in Japan on the iTunes Store Instrumental Top Albums chart, earning acclaim both at home and abroad.
Five years have passed since then -a journey guided by a series of encounters. In 2022, Dr.Handpan received an E sabye16, an instrument rich in deep overtones and luminous resonance, from the handpan atelier Kyogakusha in Tsubame, Niigata. In 2024, encounters with improvising musicians drew the artist ever deeper into the worlds of session and improvisation. And in 2025, basing the practice in the Takanodai area of Kodaira, Tokyo, Dr.Handpan began hosting AWAI, a well-being event where handpan improvisation mingles with open fire, tea, and aroma -opening a new horizon of expression and healing, where art connects people and place within the community.
Kyomei is the crystallization of those five years. Alongside five intricately woven instrumental pieces, the album features "Tsuioku" (Reminiscence), an improvised work that inherits the energy of those compositions and channels five years of feeling into a single moment of performance.
The gentle yet powerful sound of the handpan reaches into the deepest part of the listener's heart, spreading outward like ripples across water. A soundtrack for stepping away from the clamor of daily life and quietly turning inward.
