"Estranei" is the first single from Vox Caprae's debut mini-album, "Vox Caprae, Actae Baphometi." A languid ballad with a haunting sense of longing, it drifts between fleeting memories and unspoken regrets that emerge in the quiet hours of the night. The song reflects on how the pursuit of dreams and personal success can lead to the gradual sacrifice of meaningful connections with others.
Written entirely in Frank O.T. Reilly's native Italian, "Estranei" captures a delicate tension between intimacy and distance. The release also includes a Japanese version, enhancing the song's emotional depth and sense of duality.
Vox Caprae is a free-form collective of artists and musicians based in Tokyo, Japan, directed and produced by Frank O.T. Reilly. Launched in 2024, the project emerged from Frank O.'s frustration and self-loathing after spending over a decade navigating Japan's underground music scene, where he often found himself disconnected and out of sync with everything surrounding him. Vox Caprae marks his first independent effort as the primary songwriter, a break from the constraints of genre and scene, offering a space where alcohol and creativity can flow unburdened by preconceptions. The name "Vox Caprae", loosely translated from Latin as "the voice of the goat", holds both personal and symbolic weight. Throughout Reilly's career, goats and sheep have been a strange yet persistent presence, almost following him without reason. More than once, others have jokingly compared his singing to the bleat of a goat, or a sheep, when they were feeling generous. Though sheep may seem cuter, Reilly feels a deeper kinship with the stubborn independence of a goat. As an Italian living in Japan for most of his adult life, he knows all too well the experience of never fully belonging to any particular flock, musically or otherwise. At its core, Vox Caprae is a project of continuous transformation. Every piece of music, every collaboration, and every moment within the collective evolves freely, defying conventional labels. In this fluid space, the only constant is the commitment to honesty in art, where every song is not just a composition, but an unfiltered expression of what lies beyond boundaries.
