A hip-hop group from Kanagawa with a singular approach to blending neo-soul, jazz, and rap through live band sessions and collaborative production. The group consists of three MCs kyon, takaya, and basho alongside beatmaker and drummer ryo takahashi. They launched their career in Kanagawa in 2005, releasing five projects on Bandcamp between 2012 and 2017. From 2016, they began performing as a full band setup with Chicken Is Nice, the house band of Pistachio Studio, the recording studio they founded themselves. In July 2017, they dropped their first physical album, Classic Brown Sounds, which includes "WAVEY," a soulful co-write with Chicken Is Nice that draws directly from their live band experience. The album features contributions from beatmakers including TOSHIKI HAYASHI (%C), SUPPLE, esme mori, and tajima hal, placing it in dialogue with the increasingly sophisticated beat music landscape of the time. In 2018, they released the single "Stay Up All Night," with production by Chicken Is Nice and mixing and mastering handled by illicit tsuboi, a refined presentation of the synthesis between live performance and sampling. November 2019 saw the release of "All I Can Say," a single ahead of their second album, followed by the full-length Classic Brown Sounds 2 in 2022. As of 2023, true to the independent spirit that has defined them since day one, they continue to perform as an eight-piece live unit with CBS × Chicken Is Nice while steadily crafting material for their next release.
