Our movie ended at twenty’s spring

Too soon to lose that thing

We should’ve watched a little more

But now no part four

Still there probably won’t be a sequel anymore

But I still wish to see one more

Back then we feared nothing at all

Like we were the main characters everything went our way

Even when things went wrong we thought it’d end happy

We truly believed that was real

Good movies always get sequels

But most of them just fall flat

No matter how great the movie an end will come someday

I know that but I wanted to keep watching that movie forever

Our movie ended at twenty’s spring

Too soon to lose that thing

We should’ve watched a little more

But now no part four

Still there probably won’t be a sequel anymore

But I still wish to see one more

We were grown-ups but rode bikes like in Stand by Me

Everyone else had moved on already

The adults we saw as kids seemed bored with life

But with you I felt like a kid again

At the end of Stand by Me they all went separate ways

They were close but never met again

No happy ending no sequel

Is that how our story will end too

Our movie ended at twenty’s spring

Too soon to lose that thing

We should’ve watched a little more

But now no part four

Still there probably won’t be a sequel anymore

But I still wish to see one more

I'm writing a song that compares a relationship - from the beginning to the breakup - to a single movie.

When you're in the relationship, it's like the movie is still playing. But it's only after the breakup that the full story - the complete movie - really comes together.

In this song, a "sequel" refers to what happens after that movie ends - in other words, getting back together. So when the lyrics say:

"Good movies usually get a sequel - but most of them turn out bad,"

it's my way of saying that even though people often go back to past relationships, they rarely work out the second time. That's why the lyrics go on to suggest:

"There probably won't be a sequel to this one."

meaning, I don't think we'll get back together.
In the second verse, I draw a parallel between myself and the movie Stand by Me. If you've ever read the book or seen the film, I think you'll really connect with the lyrics on a deeper level.
