An instrumental four-track EP by Demmiy, where Ghana-inspired ethnic sounds intersect with contemporary electronic production and melodic hard rock guitar.
The opening track, Gyil Motif, places a rustic tone reminiscent of the gyil, a xylophone from northwestern Ghana, at the forefront. Warm wooden strikes and resonances are joined by restrained hand drums, shakers, and a rounded bass, shaping a gentle groove rooted in the earth.
In Wooden Clicks and Drumsand Kente, Woven in Rhythm, the vitality of traditional percussion merges with melodic hard rock guitar. Interwoven bells and hand drums overlap with crisp distorted riffs and singing guitar phrases, creating a dry texture and powerful forward momentum. These two tracks form the core of the EP, where Ghana-inspired rhythms resonate with the exhilaration of rock.
The closing track, ron Bell Timeline, is percussion-driven world electronica inspired by Ewe ensembles from Ghanas Volta Region. Repeating iron bells provide the foundation as high and low hand drums intertwine with deep electronic bass, eventually returning from layered rhythms to the lingering resonance of bells and drums alone.
Wood, strings, and iron each sound is vividly woven together in an audio journey that connects respect for tradition with contemporary creativity.
