COZ (aka Cosmic Flavour) was a Tokyo-based band active from 1998 to 2003. Formed by members of the British Beat Club, a music circle at Waseda University, the band developed an alternative rock sound influenced by rock, soul, and hip-hop.
Performing primarily at live houses across Tokyo, including venues in Shimokitazawa and Hatsudai, COZ built a reputation within the city's independent music scene. Under their original name, Cosmic Flavour, they released an EP through Cafe au Label, the independent label that would later become known for artists such as Suneohair.
This EP collects recordings originally produced and self-released during the band's active years.
Formed in 1998, Cosmic Flavour was founded by vocalist Tokuyama and guitarist Ishii, together with fellow university music club members Inaya (bass) and Kojima (drums), who later became known for his work as a support member for Suneohair. Following a lineup change, the band renamed itself COZ. In 2000, under the name Cosmic Flavour, the band released the mini-album FREE through Cafe au Label. They performed extensively at live houses in areas such as Shimokitazawa and Hatsudai, building a presence in Tokyo's independent music scene. The band eventually disbanded in 2003. In 2005, vocalist Tokuyama began a new musical project under the name alcana.
