Lyric

You say, “We should probably go”

I say, “Yeah,” and don't get up

Your coat is folded on the chair

The check is sitting by my cup

There's nothing left to argue now

We said it all last week

Funny how the hardest part

Is leaving when we both agree

You say, “I hope you'll be okay”

I almost say it back

But I don't want our last few minutes

To sound rehearsed like that

I know I have to let you go

I just don't have to yet

Give me five more minutes with you

Not yet, not yet

I won't ask you to change your mind

I won't ask for forever

I know I have to let you go

Just not yet

You say, “You'll meet somebody”

I say, “You too,” too fast

You ask if you should call a car

I say, “Maybe give it five”

We both know five means nothing

You check the time again

Still neither one of us moves

So I don't mention it

Maybe someday I'll say it

And it'll sound the way it should

Tonight you check the time again

And I wish you wouldn't

I know I have to let you go

I just don't have to yet

Give me five more minutes with you

Not yet, not yet

I won't ask you to change your mind

I won't ask for forever

I know I have to let you go

Just not yet

Your ride is waiting outside

You reach down for your coat

I say your name

You turn around

I had a hundred good things ready

“Take care”

“Be happy”

“All the best”

None of them come out

You look at me

Like you're waiting

So I stop trying to be good

“Come here.”

You do

And somewhere against your shoulder

I say

“Don't go.”

You don't say anything

I close my eyes

“Sorry

I know.”

I know I have to let you go

I just don't have to yet

So hold me for another minute

Not yet, not yet

I said I wouldn't change your mind

I know I can't ask for forever

I know I have to let you go

I know

I know

Just not yet

Your ride is waiting outside

Your coat is still on the chair

You say my name

I say

“Not yet.”
