Sakura Kazashi
Percussionist Kanta Hirayama began his musical journey at the age of 12.
Since then, he has performed across a wide spectrum of genres - classical, contemporary, jazz, and pop - building a unique sensibility and technical mastery that shape his artistry today.
In this album, he turns to the handpan, an instrument whose luminous overtones transcend the boundaries of rhythm and melody. Through his touch, the handpan becomes a vessel for both silence and vitality, guiding listeners into a soundscape that feels at once intimate and expansive.
The title Sakura Kazashi (literally, "to adorn oneself with cherry blossoms") reflects a distinctly Japanese sense of beauty - delicate, fleeting, yet timeless. Just as a single petal drifts on the wind, Hirayama's tones capture both transience and eternity in equal measure.
With this work, he crystallizes his vision: to connect the world through sound and to speak directly to the heart.
Sakura Kazashi is more than an album - it is an invitation to pause, to breathe, and to step beyond the everyday into a space of resonance and renewal.
Percussionist Kanta Hirayama began his musical journey at the age of 12. He has performed across a wide spectrum of genres including classical, jazz, pop, and contemporary music, building a foundation of technical mastery and artistic versatility. His career has always been driven by a pursuit that transcends categories: to explore the essence of sound and the resonance it creates within the human heart. In recent years, Hirayama has dedicated himself to the expressive possibilities of the handpan. Its luminous overtones allow him to weave rhythm and melody into a single voice that can whisper like a prayer or surge with the vitality of life. Guided by his vision to connect the world through sound and to speak directly to the heart, Hirayama continues to expand his artistic horizons through both solo projects and collaborations with diverse musicians and creators, in Japan and internationally. His latest album Sakura Kazashi embodies this vision in its purest form, inviting listeners to step beyond the everyday and into a soundscape of reflection, resonance, and renewal.
