Artist Profile

  • Johya

Johya is a rapper from Tochigi, Japan, known for his deep voice and vivid, emotionally grounded lyricism. His words don't just tell stories - they paint scenes that listeners can see, feel, and live through. He began his career eight years ago, building a solid reputation through consistent performances across the Kanto region. In 2019, he took the stage at Shinkiba Studio Coast, one of Tokyo's iconic live venues. By 2021, he made his national TV debut on TV Tokyo's "Ryuuha-R", solidifying his presence in the Japanese hip-hop scene. That same year, Johya founded his independent label, Breakthrough, and began organizing large-scale events under the same name. As both an artist and a movement leader, he has pushed boundaries and created new spaces for talent to rise, especially outside of Tokyo's mainstream. In 2024, Johya's breakout single "MARIA" became a viral hit. It climbed to #1 on the Shazam Discovery Chart, reached #5 on Spotify Japan's Viral Chart, and was featured on Nippon TV's "ZIP!". The track has now surpassed 5 million streams, a milestone that marked his transition from underground name to national recognition. Influenced early on by fellow Utsunomiya rapper HUTCH, Johya has since carved out his own lane - raw, real, and rooted in everyday life. With a voice that rumbles with weight and lyrics that reflect the world around h
