"Hearts" was produced over 20 years ago in 2003. It was the first song that producer Kurusumi Takahiko and composer YUKIYOSHI wrote after meeting. This time, the song has been rearranged and sung by Kurusumi Takahiko himself, and will be recorded and streamed with Scene of Heaven and the Chorus group.
It was December 2002, when Kurusumi Takahiko and YUKIYOSHI met at Akasaka BLITZ.
At that time, Kurusumi showed YUKIYOSHI the lyrics he had written, and told him that he wanted them to be written in the style of an 80s pop song, completely different from YUKIYOSHI's worldview.
It was a high hurdle for YUKIYOSHI, and he submitted the lyrics to Kurusumi without any confidence. He remembers that this was also at Akasaka BLITZ. YUKIYOSHI still remembers Kurusumi saying, "This could be a good song."
From that day on, it became a routine for the two of them to write songs every day and bring them to Kuruzumi. To date, they have released dozens of songs, but "Hearts" is the first song they did together, and it holds a special memory for YUKIYOSHI.
Kuruzumi Takahiko's lyrics value the beautiful words and sounds that are inherent to Japan, and many of them are fantastical and depict a unique worldview, but YUKIYOSHI also likes the simple lyrics of J-POP and Kuruzumi's lyrics that relate to everyday life and people, and this is one of the reasons he chose "Hearts" this time.
Regarding the arrangement, it began with being astonished when he heard the sound at the time. However, he once again felt that the deep feelings were certainly reflected in the song, and that the singing, instrument playing, and arrangement all reflected the personalities of all the participating members.
This time, "Hearts" has been reborn as a song that brings together various feelings, regardless of the content of the lyrics, and this was something that could never have been imagined more than 20 years ago.
But now that he was leaving a tangible legacy, YUKIYOSHI poured his heart into Hearts, arranging and mixing it down so he would have no regrets.
I also think that the serious attitude and thoughts of Kurusu as he sang brought out the best in the arrangement and gave birth to the song.
The setting for the song is said to be Shibuya Scramble Crossing.
"Hearts" is a song that makes you think that you should never forget your original intentions as a person.
