Only senseless noise

Answers back each time

Too much rhyme and flow

Won’t erase my strife

All my lines feel dead

Only dust and blight

But if I take a little shot

Pick up my feather pen, why not?

I’ll write all night, a perfect stream —

A sleepless poet lost in dreams

But truth is, that’s a drunken lie

Booze just makes me shake and cry

My eyes have long since lost their sight —

“Go sleep it off,” they laugh each night

They clink their drinks and toast the sky

While I just sigh and wonder why

Forget the words, just face the fact:

You’re blind, my friend — and that’s that!
