Than the sword

Sweat and tears

That stained my notebook

Colors of my own

A notebook overflowing

With countless dreams

Its pages torn and worn

Too embarrassing

To show anyone

But holding

A small spark of hope

With every page I turn

What spills out

Are the doubts

And wishes of yesterday

The trembling pen

I gripped and pushed forward

Behind the smudged letters

My heart was crying out

The pen is mightier

Will one day turn into

Colors of my own

Days when I was swayed

By others’ voices

Days when I looked up to

The backs of others

By writing it all down

I came face to face with myself

There’s a story here

That exists only on this page

On nights when despair

And fear nearly crushed me

I took a deep breath

And looked up at the stars

Whether the wind pushed me

Forward or held me back

I believed that everything

Would become my strength

The pen is mightier

These pages are full

Surely I’ll be stronger

Than I was yesterday

Choosing my words
