I love New York

I love New York

I landed down in New York, thought it was a dream

Next thing I know, I got snatched off the street

Two dudes in a black car, pulling up clean

Driver’s a military-type, bald head, dark shades on the scene

Riding in the back, a chubby Chinese dude

Didn’t know it was an illegal cab, thought it was all good

They were friendly at first, talking smooth and chill

But the car kept speeding through the suburbs, gave me chills

Outside, cars with broken glass, dark vibes all around

Neighborhoods looked rough, my heartbeat was loud

I was trapped in a city I didn’t know at all

Then they stopped in a tunnel, deep, dark, cold wall

They said, “Give me all your money,” eyes full of greed

I didn’t know English, but “money! money!” all I could read

I only had $200 cash on me, that’s all I could give

They kept screaming “More! More!” I had no more to live

I snapped and yelled, “This is it! This is all I got!”

They let me go in that tunnel, then they shot off hot

I was left alone, thinking, “Is this really Jamaica for real?”

Confused as hell, heart pounding, couldn’t believe the deal

Ran to the station, had to find a subway line

Had a little hidden cash, but no coins at the time

A lady at the kiosk helped me break my bill

She saved me, gave me strength, gave me a chill

Said thank you and ran back, got my ticket right

Headed to Penn Station, out of that night

Stealing from an angel? Man, that’s next-level crime

But yo, I survived, made it out alive this time

I love New York

I love New York

I love New York

I love New York

That was back in April 2013

And even now

I can’t forget the taste of the best New York cheesecake on Earth

I still love New York
