Kansai/Osaka/Nara from SMDcrew, B Side Approach, has released two singles at the same time (!). This will be the first release since saxophone member Ayaka officially joined the band.
The two singles are released by Back Yard Records, which also released a sprit disc with Yokohama Bayonets as B Side Approach.
The jackets for both releases are by Daichang55.
Besides B Side Approach, Daichang55 has done many SMDcrew related artworks.

The sound of the band is also notable, with the addition of a saxophone, which further accelerates the party hardcore mood that was also present on the aforementioned split disc with the Bayonets.
The addition of the saxophone has accelerated this aspect of the band's sound. 25 years after its formation, the band has evolved into a style that is unique in Japan.

The saxophone has a unique and interesting mid to low range sound as an instrument, and the band as a whole has an increased three-dimensionality and depth, and above all, it is an exciting and fun sound to listen to.

The saxophone is also a great attraction, but the sound has a touch of the neo Oi/Skins and street punk scenes that are quietly rising in the world today, including Conservative Military Image and others, and that resonate strongly with hardcore.
The sound is not overly metallic, but exquisitely tough and hot (and also gruff).
The sound is not divided between US and UK bands, but is in the vein of The Blitz, Business, Youth Defense League, and so on.

The band has the potential to bring in the old and new Oi/Skins, punks, and live kids of all ages and genders, not to mention the traditional hardcore lovers, to get the crowd going.

Artist Profile

  • B Side Approach

B Side Approach from SMDcrew is a hot-rodding hardcore punk band from Nara/Osaka, Japan, bound for Boston via New York! SMDcrew is one of the few bands in the Kansai area that has continued the NYHC style lineage of HARDCORE BREAKOUT - SMDcrew. While keeping the 80's-90's NYHC and Boston's HC/Punk/Oi/Skins at the core of their music, they also inject plenty of the ferocious energy and Thrash/Crossover elements that Japanese Hardcore of the past used as weapons, creating a golden balance between a thick build-up and a driving feel. It is more than a sleeve-cut G-jacket. The band's sound, which is more than a sleeve-cut G-jean, but less than a studded jacket, with their Martin boots tied tightly and suspenders swinging around their arms as they scatter dust, fills live houses with a charm that attracts both old and new hardcore punks and skins alike. In recent years, the band has taken a different approach, including the inclusion of wind instruments, and is now exploring a new, party-hard side that is more than just bright and cheerful. They have released two albums and participated in numerous compilations. In 2022, he will release Bayonets, the core of YCS (Yokohama City Skinheads) and Split 7inch from Back Yard Records.
