" Still Playin' " is the first release since the reunion of Akebono Nation, a hip-hop crew formed in Makuhari in 2000.
The friends who started making music together back then went their separate ways, building their own lives while taking on the responsibilities of work, family, and adulthood.
Nearly a quarter of a century later, they came together again-to write lyrics, create tracks, and make music in the studio.
" Still Playin' " is not about holding on to the " SEISHUN " of our younger days. It's about staying true to who we are at our core-now and into the future.
It's less about saying, "The dream never ends," and more about the feeling of continuing to live alongside our dreams.
The word "still" carries a touch of humor-a kind of "Yeah, we're still doing this"-but also a sense of strength: we're still here, and we're still going.
More than 20 years later, old friends pick up the mic once again.
No matter how old we get, no matter how much life changes, we're still making music.
We are still playin'.
A hip-hop crew formed in Makuhari, Chiba, in 2000. Akebono Nation began with three members who lived in the same apartment and were all part of their university jazz club. They started creating original hip-hop music and performing live. As members graduated, new members joined, and the lineup evolved over the years. The crew remained active until March 2003, with around 20 members having been part of Akebono Nation at different points during its initial run. Eventually, the members graduated from university and went their separate ways, building their own lives, careers, and families. Then, in 2025, former members came together once again. While living their everyday lives as working adults, they returned to writing lyrics, creating tracks, gathering in the studio, and making music together.
